2. SIGNIFICANT ACCOUNTING POLICIES (CONTINUED) (c) Financial instruments (continued) (ii) Financial instrument categories and subsequent measurement (continued) Financial assets (continued) Current financial year (continued) (c) Fair value through profit or loss All financial assets not measured at amortised cost or fair value through other comprehensive income as described above are measured at fair value through profit or loss. This includes derivative financial assets (except for a derivative that is a designated and effective hedging instrument). On initial recognition, the Group or the Company may irrevocably designate a financial asset that otherwise meets the requirements to be measured at amortised cost or at fair value through other comprehensive income as at fair value through profit or loss if doing so eliminates or significantly reduces an accounting mismatch that would otherwise arise. Financial assets categorised as fair value through profit or loss are subsequently measured at their fair value. Net gains or losses, including any interest or dividend income, are recognised in the profit or loss. All financial assets, except for those measured at fair value through profit or loss and equity investments measured at fair value through other comprehensive income, are subject to impairment assessment (see note 2(j)(i)). Previous financial year In the previous financial year, financial assets of the Group and the Company were classified and measured under MFRS 139, Financial Instruments: Recognition and Measurement as follows: (a) Financial assets at fair value through profit or loss Fair value through profit or loss category comprised financial assets that were held for trading, including derivatives (except for a derivative that was a financial guarantee contract or a designated and effective hedging instrument), contingent consideration in a business combination or financial assets that were specifically designated into this category upon initial recognition. Derivatives that were linked to and must be settled by delivery of unquoted equity instruments whose fair values could not be reliably measured were measured at cost. Other financial assets categorised as fair value through profit or loss were subsequently measured at their fair values with the gain or loss recognised in profit or loss. (b) Loans and receivables Loans and receivables category comprised debt instruments that were not quoted in an active market, trade and other receivables and cash and cash equivalents. Financial assets categorised as loans and receivables were subsequently measured at amortised cost using the effective interest method. 113 Annual Report 2018 Notes to the Financial Statements (CONTINUED) FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
